Fellowship In Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic Surgery

The Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic Surgery (FMIGS) is an advanced postgraduate training programme for Gynaecologists, committed to developing skilled and competent Minimally Invasive Surgeons in the diagnosis, surgical management, and academic research of various gynaecologic conditions.

The fellowship programme provides structured training in all aspects of Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic surgery, including basic to advanced Gynaecologic Endoscopy such as laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and elective options in Robotic surgery, ablative therapies in Gynaecology. There is also particular emphasis in fostering academic scholarship and leadership in women’s healthcare.

Curriculum and Training Components

The FMIGS curriculum integrates clinical, surgical, and academic domains, including:
  • Promoting evidence-based practices, fostering high-quality research, and ensuring rigorous training standards for current and future Gynaecologic Minimally Invasive Surgeons.
  • Surgical Training: Progressive responsibility in basic to advanced laparoscopic, hysteroscopic procedures. Elective training such as robotic-assisted procedures, cadaveric dissection programmes and simulation-based training as well as ablative therapies in Gynaecology.
  • Academic Development: Structured teaching in research methodology, biostatistics, and scientific writing, with mandatory submission of at least one peer-reviewed publication.
  • Teaching Responsibilities: Fellows participate actively in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, workshops, and professional development courses.

Programme Objectives

  • To provide comprehensive training in basic to advanced minimally invasive gynaecologic surgery
  • To cultivate expertise in surgical skills, preoperative evaluation, intraoperative decision-making, and postoperative care, preparing a competent Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic Surgeon.
  • To promote academic excellence through research, publication, and participation in scientific discourse.
  • To prepare fellows for leadership roles in clinical practice, education, and academic medicine.

Overview of Programme Structure:

Duration: 1–2 years (depending on track and candidate qualifications).

Supervision: Training under the mentorship of senior and expert faculty with expertise in minimally invasive surgery. Main training centres are located in Malaysia, with options for candidates to undergo elective postings in overseas recognized training centres.

Assessment: Continuous evaluation through surgical performance, academic productivity, and formal competency-based assessments.

Affiliations and Collaborations

The FMIGS is conducted in collaboration between AMRAS and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (National University of Malaysia), ensuring training standards that are aligned with international benchmarks in minimally invasive surgery.
